Announcing BIG Changes to Our Membership Model

We’re making some BIG changes to our membership model as a result of feedback from past, current, and prospective members. We will now have more membership options at more affordable rates. Our website has already been updated, so you get get started now!

WHAT YOU GET FOR $0:

Our Guild Gatherings in communities across Northern Ontario will be returning to a donation-based model. That means, the meetings are completely free for anyone to attend, but you can make a donation at the meeting if you choose. All funds collected by donation at these meetings will stay with that local chapter to fund literary activities in that community. Chapters will still be able to request additional funds from our board when needed.

Access to our private Facebook group in your community will also be free. You will not have to be a paying member to join or remain in the Facebook group of your choice.

WHAT YOU GET FOR $20:

Our online directory of Northern Ontario writers will now be available to list in for $20. That is a lifetime membership! Your author profile will include:

  • your name
  • a head shot (provided by you)
  • your hometown
  • current home base
  • a short bio
  • a link to your external website (or a social media profile if you don’t have a website)

In the future, if you need to update your author profile, you will be charged an additional $20 administration fee, but that’s only if you want to make changes. Otherwise, you never pay again! This option is great for those who want to be recognized as Northern Ontario authors, and/or want to be associated with the guild, but don’t think they will be attending meetings or taking advantage of full membership benefits.

WHAT YOU GET FOR $60:

The annual price of full membership with the guild has now decreased. Full membership benefits are available for $60 annually (instead of the current price of $75). There will no longer be monthly or quarterly membership options. Instead, your membership will begin the day you pay, and renew on the same day the following year (no more fiscal year confusion).

Full membership includes:

  • Voting privileges in all elections and referendums
  • An author profile at silverleafwriters.com (optional)
  • A personal blog at silverleafwriters.com (optional)
  • Discount to special guild events like the Northern Ontario Book Fair
  • Access to discounted services provided by your fellow members (e.g. editing, sensitivity reads, etc.)
  • Publicity via the guild’s network of 200+ Northern Ontario author, community, and media partners when your publish new work
  • The ability to sell your books or other products online via silverleafwriters.com (we reserve the right to collect a consignment fee on each item)

Only full members of the guild can be nominated to the Board of Directors or make decisions about the future of the guild, but, as always, we are open to feedback from anyone who is or wants to be involved with the guild.

SO WHAT NOW?

These changes don’t take effect until April 1, 2019 (officially) but our website has been updated with the new prices, so you don’t have to wait if you don’t want to.

If you are an existing member of the guild, you can wait until your membership comes up for renewal, at which time the price will go down to $60 for the year. Currently, your membership is valid until March 31, 2019.

If you would like to set up an author profile on our website, you can click here to fill out the online form and make your payment today.

You can start attending our meetings for free now if you’d like. We won’t start collecting donations until April 1st so that we have a chance to work out the logistics with the leaders of each chapter, but you can start attending now to see what the meetings are all about. Visit our Guild Chapters page for information about chapters available in your area, or about how to set up a chapter in your area. You can also join our private Facebook group in your area.

If you don’t want to be a member of or be associated with the guild at all, but you do want to support Northern Ontario writers, you can make a donation on our website. Thank you for your support.

What do you think about these changes? We’re pretty excited to see more writers and communities from across Northern Ontario get involved in the region’s literary arts!
